Petra’s (at Tivoli Village)

Tivoli Village is Summerlin’s newest shopping destination, and it’s still struggling to find its place in a city so full of options, though I urge you to give this diamond-in-the-rough a chance.  The shopping center’s beautiful design reminiscent of a quaint European town makes your time dining there feel as though you traveled much further than a few exits from your home.  Petra’s is traditional Greek fare in a warm and inviting atmosphere.  The restaurant had some problems in their initial opening and is now working out the kinks, making it a place worth checking out now.

We started with the classic “can’t go to a Greek place and not get this” Saganaki.  It was amazing to eat, and amusing to watch our waitress light it with a look of real panic on her face.  Hopefully she was still just getting used the job.  Not to put her down, I’m sure I’d make that face too, but I don’t wait tables at a Greek restaurant, and probably never will for that very reason.  With our Saganaki happily eaten and the restaurant thankfully cinder-free, we went on to enjoy the Greek Octapothi (red wine braised octopus tossed in olive oil), an amazing Gyro Meat Platter, and their Dolmadakia (large grape leaves stuffed with a mixture of lamb, beef, spices, and rice).  All three of our final dishes were tasty, though our octopus was a bit on the dry side;  it was still a fine meal.  Our service was attentive and friendly as well, which can make or break a night.  But I do think the artificial trees lit brightly with a pretty LED splendor and the cobblestone street you walk on to get there helped to make the night feel a little magical, and I hope that Petra’s uses that magic to find real success.
